Anak Krakatau: Incredible volcanic eruption

I'm obsessed with volcanoes. I've been to several, all in Indonesia. Here's another Indonesian volcano which I've longed to visit - Krakatau (also spelled Krakatoa), located between the islands of Java and Sumatra. The one shown here erupted on November 1st, 2010. Very incredible work of Mother Nature.

Krakatau is an extremely active volcano, and it's world renowned for its 1883 eruption, in which more than 40,000 people on the island were wiped out. Its explosion is to this day considered to be the loudest sound ever heard in modern history, with reports of it being heard nearly 3,000 miles from its point of origin - in places as far as Mauritius and Perth, Australia.

Living in the 21st century and an ever-borderless, globalizing world, our markets are perpetually inundated with various products and accessories flown in from every part of the world. We as consumers are definitely spoilt for choice! And on a typical shopping day, we might make a visit to our favourite stores in town and more often than not, we'll shop till we drop, especially when these stores are having big sales and promotions! Now tell me… Who could ever resist that temptation?

That said, upon returning home and after having indulged ourselves in that temporary bliss of shopping frenzy, reality hits. And it hits REAL BIGGG. We sigh, shriek, and utter in disbelief, “Goodness gracious! I’ve just spent hundreds!”

Well my friends, does that seem oh-so déjà vu to you? Ouch! All I can advise is, you seriously need to seek a personal finance manager - a budget planner to be precise!

But don’t you put on a grumpy face yet! It ain’t gonna cost you thousands! With the awesome Mint online app, in fact, it’s totally free! You heard it right - FREE! Besides, you'll also get personalized ideas on how to save money, and that will probably save you from splurging on unnecessary items in the future which you'll regret sooner or later!

Be rest assured, with Mint's awesome budget software, you'll never have those unwelcome surprises from your bank at the end of the month again. 100% guaranteed! :D

Yet another breakie day

I'm quite amazed at myself. I rarely wake up before noon on hols or weekends. It's like a mission impossible to make me greet the morning sun on these days, unless and unless. But ever since I came home, I've been getting my butt off the bed early (by early, I mean before noon). And I even made it for breakfast! :D

It was another day of breakie for me, all prepared by mum. Don't you all just love mum's cooking? Even if it's just an ordinary meal, nothing fancy and luxurious - to me, it's priceless. Money can't buy you that. Not even those sumptuous meals at Michelin star-rated restaurants can compare. They all lack one important ingredient - the affection of a mother. :)

Breakfast, sprinkled with mum's love

It feels so good being home! One of the best things - to taste mum's cooking! She made us breakfast this morning, and even though it was just a simple meal, I was oh-so satisfied! :D

I'm back home!

Ah... How I missed my home! Everything... The smells, the colours, the air... And mum's cooking. My hometown was hit by the worst flood in recent years last week. Thank goodness the waters have receded and now all things have returned to normal. Am so gonna laze around in my couch these days while not forgetting to prepare for my finals next week. Gosh!

Estoy muy muy muy cansado!

The title says everything. Am just fed up with what I'm doing now. My health would definitely deteriorate sooner or later if I continue to be like this. No hay tiempo para otros actividades. Mi vida es un disastre ahora.

But what to do? Es la realidad. Life's like that.

A Thai island getaway this Dec, again?

I need a vacation badly! So for this upcoming semester break, I'm thinking of escaping to the idyllic beaches of Thailand again. Been to Krabi and Ko Phi Phi this February and I've fallen in love with its beaches ever since!

I'm planning for a 3 or 4 or even 5-nite (depending on my rather puny budget) stay on the relatively tranquil island of Ko Lipe, which is situated in the Andaman Sea and is under the jurisdiction of Satun Province (once a part of Kedah), Southern Thailand. Dubbed the Maldives of Thailand, the island offers spectacular white sandy beaches and believe it or not, it's much nearer to Langkawi than the Thai mainland! I might wanna make a stop at Ko Tarutao and some of its surrounding islands, which are equally breathtaking and scenic from the pictures I've seen on the net.

So... Anyone wanna come along with me? ;)

This year - this month to be precise - is full of beautiful dates, ain't it? First, there's a 10.10.10, and now here comes 20.10.2010 ten days later.

Hope it's a great day ahead for us all! :)

Enjoy the OST from the most expensive film ever produced in Malaysia, Puteri Gunung Ledang! I know I did. :D

Sheila Majid: A tribute

I've never really been a big fan of Malay songs, but certain songs by certain local artistes have managed to attract my attention. One of them is none other than the legendary Sheila Majid. She's always presented herself in a classy, elegant way and that's why I adore and admire her amongst all other artistes in the local music scene. The soothing and often catchy melodies of her songs have never failed to capture my heart.

Here are some of my favourites by our very own Queen of Jazz...

On an unrelated note, the deadline of my final studio project has been extended to next Friday! Woot! :)

Istanbul 2010: European Capital of Culture

Let's visit Istanbul! It's one of the two designated European Capitals of Culture this year. And man... What a nicely done promotional video on one of the world's most culturally and historically rich cities! Istanbul seems so magical to me! :D

No. 162, Campbell Street, George Town, Penang

Just a sketch I've done for a small school assignment on an early shophouse in Campbell Street, George Town, Penang. As you can see, the shop sells mainly clocks and watches, and is as old as my grandparents! :D

Future talk

I've been thinking over and over again on where I would like to work in my near future upon graduation. Yes, my ultimate goal remains the same, i.e. to work and settle somewhere far, far away from here. Seriously, I'm working on it. There's a blue plan for it somewhere in my mind. And no, I'm not planning to seek a job here. Unless and unless.

For the past week, I've been searching on the web about architecture firms in exotic locations such as Bali, Phuket, and Bangkok. You know I love sun, sea, sand, and culture! Thanks to a friend, I'm now very interested in the design of holiday resorts instead of those ubiquitous commercial shoplots and housing projects handled by most local firms. I've found some really amazing firms in those locations whose portfolios include a repertoire of impressive resorts and chalets, and that got me very excited.

Ah well, it's hard to say whether they will accept me or not. But I believe. And I still do.

Thursday, May 06, 2010

In case you don't already know, I'm currently slaving in an architecture firm till the end of June. So far so good. :) I've been working on the design of a food court with an adjacent budget hotel for several days. Hopefully everyday is an inspirational day for me. Sometimes getting new ideas just drives you mad! Anyway... I'm looking forward to my Java trip in June. Can't wait!

Boring New Year's Eve, but that doesn't stop me from welcoming a brand new year! It's gonna be a challenging year for me at school, and if anything goes wrong, I'm dead! :O

Anyway... Best wishes to all of you, and please keep yourself entertained at my other blog, sOleiLian, if there happens to be no updates here. :)

Happy 2010, all!
